Possessive Nouns

·      Remember: A noun is a person, place or thing, singular=one, plural=more than one.

·      A possessive noun SHOWS OWNERSHIP

·      A singular possessive noun shows that ONE person, place, or thing has/owns something.

·      Add ‘s to make a singular noun show possession.
EXAMPLES: a child’s book, Marcus’s hat, country’s flag

·      A plural possessive noun shows that MORE THAN ONE person, place, or thing has/owns something.

·      If the plural noun ends in –s, add after to make it show possession.
EXAMPLES: both parents cars, our students desks

·      If the plural noun DOES NOT end in –s, add ‘s to show possession.

EXAMPLES: women’s quilts, children’s homework
