Subjects and
Predicates
· Every sentence MUST have a subject and predicate.
· Subject-
tells who or what the sentence is about. All words in the subject make up the complete
subject. The most important words in the subject make up the simple
subject

Example:
Many students turned in their papers.
· Predicate-
tells what the subject is or is doing. All words in the predicate make up the complete
predicate. The most important words make up the simple predicate.
SP
Example:
Many students turned in their papers.
· Fragment- is
missing either a subject or a predicate.
Example:
went shopping. (This fragment is missing
a subject.)
· Run-on- 2 or
more sentences that run together.
Example:
The girls wore the same tennis shoes they were cute.
